Douglas McArthur Shannon, Sr. 1942-2008

Douglas McArthur Shannon, Sr., the son of Marvin Luther and Hallie Irene Witt Shannon, was born February 14, 1942 at Sturkie, Arkansas. After a wonderful life, he went on to be with our Lord June 28, 2008 at the age of 66.

On September 19, 1959, he was married to Bertha Elliott at West Plains, Missouri. From this 43- year marriage, three children were blessed into their home: Sherri, Terri and Douglas Jr.

For over 40 years he was a minister of the gospel, a builder by trade and enjoyed bluegrass music. Douglas played every stringed instrument, although he never mastered the fiddle. He was best known for picking his Gibson Mastertone banjo. He was a man with a BIG heart who enjoyed helping others. He was light-hearted, free spirited and had a way about him that often brought laughter

He is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Hallie, three brother Rand, Ray and John of West Plains; and two sisters Pearlie Mae Smith and Laura Ann Norman.

He is survived by his two daughters, Sherri Lynn Cronk and Terri Wynn Beavers and one son, Douglas McArthur Shannon Jr.; two son-in-laws, Mark Cronk of McRae, AR and Tim Beavers of Willow Springs, MO; one daughter-in-law, Rebeka Shannon of Mountain View, MO; seven grandsons, Bradley Grogan, Christopher Grogan and wife Kimberly, Ethan Shannon, Dustin Shannon, John Cronk, Jared Cronk and Stephen Cronk and wife Jamie; three great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Jessie Cronk and Emma Mae Grogan. One brother James Shannon and wife Ruth of West Plains, Missouri, six sisters, Sybil Stanley, Kathleen Wheeler and John; Virginia Sue Bell and husband Leroy all of the Hutcheson, Kansas; Bertha Elliott; and Linda Fox and husband Riley all of West Plains, MO and a host of nieces and nephews

On June 28, 2008, God sent angels to carry him home. (And it came to pass that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: Luke 16:22)

He will be missed by all who knew him.

Services were held Wednesday July 2, 2008 at 10:00 Am at the Pentecostal Church of God in MountainView, with Rev. M. Y. Bennett officiating. Interment was in Stateline Cemetery near Sturkie, Arkansas under the care of Bradford Funeral Home.
