Vivian Marjorie Stringer the daughter of Det. J. Chesteen Smith and Beatrice Estelene Olson Smith was born at Ysleta, Texas, May 5, 1937 and went into the arms of Jesus, Monday evening, May 18, 2009 at her home in Hartshorn, making her age 72 years and 13 days.

Vivian was united in marriage to Donald Auston Stringer June 19, 1955. To their union 4 children were born, Robert Warren, Dorvan Eugene, Gregory Keith, and Lisa Charlene.

Vivian worked at the H.D. Lee Company in Houston for over 30 years. She worked with many machines such as the belt-looper, joiner machine and for the last 15 years as a quality control inspector. After the H.D. Lee factory closed, she worked in the Summersville School District as a substitute cook and later at Liberty High School as a full time cook for over 2 years. This job brought great joy to her life as she loved feeding all those children, especially her grandkids. She became Grandma to many kids during those years.

Besides spending time with her family, her greatest moments were spent tending her flowers, watching and feeding her many birds, and playing the bass guitar. She was blessed with a great sewing talent and loved making quilts with her sisters-in-laws. She made several quilts for her grandchildren’s graduations as that was her way of showing them how proud she was of them. She also donated several quilts for benefits and to those in need.

Vivian was always faithful in her church attendance first at Midvale Pentecostal Church and later at the Hartshorn Assembly of God Church where she beamed with joy as she praised God under the leadership of her son Dorvan as pastor and later her nephew Gary. She spent the majority of her life serving God and was always willing to help with anything that needed to be done. She was a very talented musician and was blessed with the ability to play many musical instruments. Vivian was a very unselfish lady that wished the best for everyone. No sacrifice was too great for her family. She loved them all very much.
