Phyllis Joyce (Barton ) Haugse, age 65, daughter of Everett and Agatha (Patterson) Barton was born on June 30, 1943 and went with the Lord on June 28, 2009 in her husband’s arms at Texas County Memorial Hospital, Houston, Missouri.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Ruthene Green and Sally Walker, and two sons, Kyle and Keith. She is survived by her husband James (Jim) of Houston, two sons: Kevin Barton of Houston, MO and Kimbell James Haugse of Surprise, Arizona, four sisters, Lola McCall of Salem, MO, Emogene Ingram, Deloise, MO, Jackie Hinton, Houston, MO, and Ethel Brown of Valley Park, MO, three grandchildren, Amanda Haugse, Flagstaff, Arizona, Nick Haugse, Surprise, AZ and Stephen Barton of Los Banos, California.
Phyllis grew up in the Raymondville area and graduated from Licking High School in 1960, and always enjoyed seeing her classmates at high school reunions.
She married James (Jim) Lowell Haugse on September 23, 1961 in Valley Park, Missouri and they raised their children in Riverside, California.
She had a strong relationship with the Lord and remained unshakably faithful even during life’s most difficult moments and encouraged those around her to do the same just by being who she was.
Upon retirement, they returned to Houston in 2005 where Phyllis enjoyed gardening and fishing, watching cooking shows and trying new recipes. She was a proud Eagles Club member. Earlier in life, she enjoyed bowling, camping, even an occasional game of softball and basketball. She never missed any of her children’s school or athletic functions. She kept family traditions alive especially during the holidays and really looked forward to the Barton family reunions.
Phyllis lightened up any room with her lively spirit and never knew a stranger. She loved life and everyone around her. She was a devoted wife, loving sister, an extraordinarily caring mother and adoring grandmother. Although she was small in stature, she was a giant in strength, spirit, and heart.
The world is blessed by the love and kindness of the Lord, and his work is truly evident in the life of Phyllis Joyce (Barton) Haugse. She will remain a precious gift to those who knew her and will remain in their hearts forever. Be assured that heaven will never again be the same.
St. Mark's Catholic Church, Houston, MO, will be serving a meal after the service on Wednesday.
