Lulu Irene (Whaley) Russell 1920-2009

Lulu Irene Russell the daughter of David Whaley and Ora Adell White Whaley was born January 14, 1920 at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View, Missouri, Saturday morning, May 16, 2009 making her age 89 years.

Lulu was united in marriage in 1938 to Paul Riley of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and to their union one son Paul Leroy was born. After their divorce, she married Claude Alfonso Aynes in the early1940's, to their union 6 children were born: Raymond, Phyllis, Shirley, Claudette, Adell (Jeanie) and Linda. In October 1963, Claude passed away, she married William Frank Russell Aug 15, 1964.

Lulu and Frank moved from Morning Sun, Iowa to Summersville, Missouri in 1979. Frank passed away November of 1989. Lulu then moved to the Summersville Senior Citizens Center where she lived until she was unable to live alone. She then moved to the Mountain View Health Care where she loved playing Bingo and visiting with friends.

Her favorite pastimes and hobbies were gardening, working with her flowers, playing Bingo and crocheting. She loved to talk about her 22 grandchildren, her 46 great grandchildren, and her 9 great great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents, three husbands, 4 brothers, Ernest, Walter, Herman and David Whaley; 2 sisters, Florence Swailes, and Isabelle Purkapile.

Lulu is survived by her children, Raymond Aynes and wife Nancy of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; Phyllis Erbst and husband Bill of Calamus, Iowa; Shirley Dearth and husband Don of Morning Sun, Iowa; Claudette Thomason and husband Terry of Carthage, Illinois; Adell (Jeanie) Enloe and husband Kenny of Hartshorn, Missouri; Linda Aynes Villarreal-Kinnison of Morning Sun, Iowa and Paul Leroy Riley and wife Roberta of Keokuk, Iowa. Lulu is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and a host of other family members.

Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Yarmouth, Iowa on Wednesday, May 20th at 2 PM with Pastor Paul Hooks officiating, visitation precedes services from10-12. A luncheon will be served following visitation. Burial will be in the Elm Wood Cemetery in Morning Sun, Iowa under the care of Bradford Funeral Home of Summersville, Missouri.
